About The Band

 

The Satellites formed in 1959 at Plant High School in Tampa, Florida.  The band recorded a 45RPM record called “Moody” in 1960 which received a 4 star rating from Billboard Magazine for the best recording of the month.  Jim McGuirt reformed the band in the 1970’s and entertained thousands of people in the Florida area for years.  The Satellites opened for national acts including:  Little Anthony & The Imperials, The Platters, The Coasters, The Drifters, Frankie Ford, The Flamingos, the Tokens, The Diamonds and more.  The band appeared at the St. Petersburg Coliseum with 92.5FM, major conventions, Oldtown Cruise in Kissimmee and many venues throughout central Florida.  Jim relocated to North Carolina in 2004 and recently moved back to Tampa.  The Satellites are reformed with two of the original members and are now entertaining young and old alike; playing the favorites we all grew up with.

 

MEMBERS

 

Jim McGuirt:  Vocals and Guitar

 

Jim has fronted The Satellites for many years in the Tampa Bay area and has opened for many national acts, conventions, and events.  Jim performed in Las Vegas in 2003 entertaining with an oldies showgroup. He then moved to North Carolina where he entertained in various country clubs and events.  Jim now resides in Tampa, Florida.

 

Mike Moser:   Vocals and Electric Bass

 

Mike hails from Greensboro, North Carolina where he backed up national acts including The Clovers, The Drifters, The Coasters, Bo Diddley, Jimmy Reed, Dee Clark and more.  Mike was the lead singer for The Fabulous Five Showgroup at the Cloud Nine Supper Club in Tampa, Florida for four years.  Mike also worked the Brown Derby Restaurant chain throughout Florida for 14 years.

 

Don Hines:  Percussion

 

Don played in Germany from 1964 -1966.  He attended the University of Tampa and performed in the jazz band there.  From 1975 – 1976 Don was the drummer for Desert Winds band at Busch Gardens, Tampa.  He joined The Satellites in 1986 – 1992.  Don has returned to The Satellites and now lives in Oldsmar, Florida.

 

Don Pascoe:  (AKA C. O. Jones) Tenor Sax and Flute

 

Don attended the Cleveland Institute of Music for six years and Berklee School of Music for two years. He played Dixieland Jazz in the ate 1950’s and worked with Bobby Darin, Ray Stevens, Johnny Tillotson, Steve Alaimo, Stan Kenton and more.  Don played with Tampa’s Glades in the 60’s and The Satellites in the 90’s.  He has now returned to The Satellites again and resides in Tampa, Florida.


Jimmy McGuirt:   Conga Drums & Vocals


Jimmy has been singing the oldies since he was very young.  Now he sings with his dad's band and wows audiences with his tenor voice performing hits from The Righteous Brothers, Del Vikings, The Platters and more.  Jimmy is a first place winner of the City of Largo Community talent show in 2008.  He has performed for large audiences as a member of The Satellites.  He is sure to please young and old with his talented voice.
