The Satellites formed in 1959 at Plant High School in Tampa, Florida. The band recorded a 45RPM record called “Moody” in 1960 which received a 4 star rating from Billboard Magazine for the best recording of the month. Jim McGuirt reformed the band in the 1970’s and entertained thousands of people in the Florida area for years. The Satellites opened for national acts including: Little Anthony & The Imperials, The Platters, The Coasters, The Drifters, Frankie Ford, The Flamingos, the Tokens, The Diamonds and more. The band appeared at the St. Petersburg Coliseum with 92.5FM, major conventions, Oldtown Cruise in Kissimmee and many venues throughout central Florida. Jim relocated to North Carolina in 2004 and recently moved back to Tampa. The Satellites are reformed with two of the original members and are now entertaining young and old alike, playing the favorites we all grew up with. Jim McGuirt: Guitar and Vocals
Jim has fronted The Satellites for many years in the Tampa Bay area since 1960 and has opened for many national acts, conventions, and events. Jim performed in Las Vegas in 2003 entertaining with an oldies showgroup. He then moved to North Carolina where he entertained in various country clubs and events. Jim now resides in Tampa, Florida.
Richard Swim: Bass and Vocals
Richard is one of the founding members of The Satellites in 1960. He worked with several bands in the 1960's and recorded once in Brussels, Belgium in 1966. He played in the Chapel Hill, NC area from 1971 to 1972. In the 1980's Richard played on Holland America Cruise Lines and then various jazz groups in Sarasota, Florida. Richard now resides in Tampa, Fl.
David Smith: Percussion and Vocals
David has backed up most of the national oldies acts. He played with the Sevilles out of Pinellas County, Fl. for many years and is a member of the Columbus, Ohio Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. David is a former member of The Satellites and has returned as a present member. David now resides in Holiday, Florida.
Don Pascoe: (AKA C. O. Jones) Tenor Sax and Flute
Don attended the Cleveland Institute of Music for six years and Berklee School of Music for two years. He played Dixieland Jazz in the ate 1950’s and worked with Bobby Darin, Ray Stevens, Johnny Tillotson, Steve Alaimo, Stan Kenton and more. Don played with Tampa’s Glades in the 60’s and The Satellites in the 90’s. He has now returned to The Satellites again and resides in Tampa, Florida.
Kenny Stockton: Keyboards and Vocals
Kenny was a founding member of the popular Sevilles out of Pinellas County, Fl., prior to joining The Satellites He has played with greats such as Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis and Charlie Daniels.l Kenny is multi-talented and not only plays the keyboards but has true vocal ability with the oldies. Kenny is now with The Satellites and lives in Spring Hill, Fl.
